CARPET FAQs

What is the best type of carpet fiber – wool or synthetic?

The best type of carpet for you will depend on your unique needs. Consider the following:

  • What is your lifestyle like?
  • Do you and your family spend a lot of time at home? Are you active?
  • Does the area where you want to install carpet get a lot of foot traffic?
  • Do you have young children or pets that tend to make messes?
  • What style look are you trying to create with your design?
  • What is your budget?

All of these questions are important and will help both you and any design consultants you work with narrow down the best choice for you when it comes to carpet type.

Wool carpet is made from renewable, sustainable materials, is soft and luxurious, naturally resists stains, and insulates rooms for comfort year-round.

Synthetic carpet is very durable and will retain its color for many years, is also stain-resistant, and is very economical.

You can also purchase a blend of both natural and synthetic fibers to get the best of both worlds.

My carpet was installed a few weeks ago and still has an odor. How do I get rid of new carpet smell?

First, try ventilating your home. Weather permitting, open windows and run fans to create airflow in the rooms where your new carpet has been installed. You can also vacuum to help speed the process.

If, after that, you still experience unwanted odor, you may want to try a hot water extraction. This is a type of cleaning that can be done professionally – simply call your local carpet cleaner and they can provide a recommended cleaning solution.

How do I know how much carpet I need to buy?

Carpet can be purchased by area. Know the square footage of your room, or at least a rough estimate of your length and width, to get a general sense of how much carpet you need.

Before you buy, have a professional measurement of your space completed to determine how much carpet you will actually need to purchase.
